Connect Telegram

Create a bot with BotFather and receive Telegram chats in your inbox.

Telegram connects through a bot. Customers write to your bot; the chats land in your inbox and your replies go back through the bot.

1. Create a bot with BotFather

  1. In Telegram, open @BotFather and send /newbot.
  2. Choose a display name (for example your company name) and a username ending in bot.
  3. BotFather replies with a token. Copy it and keep it private.

2. Add the inbox

  1. Open the STS Connect Inbox and go to Settings → Inboxes → Add Inbox.
  2. Choose Telegram, paste the bot token, and press Create.
  3. Add the agents who should answer.

Open your bot in Telegram, press Start, and send a message. It appears in the inbox.

Tips

  • Share the bot as a link: https://t.me/your_bot_username. Put it on your website or in your Instagram bio.
  • Use BotFather's /setuserpic and /setdescription to brand the bot.
  • Telegram alerts for your own team (not customers) are a different feature: see Get alerts by email or Telegram.
